Chase Travaille

Last Laugh: the Comic Memento

December 13th, 2024 - January 18th, 2025

Pond is pleased to announce Last Laugh: the Comic Memento, a solo exhibition of recent ceramic and collage work by Little Rock-based artist, Chase Travaille. Please join us for a reception on Friday, December 13th from 5:30 - 8:00 to celebrate. Mark your calendars!

A trained ceramicist, Travaille developed his iconic assemblage technique in an effort to by-pass the use of a kiln in his studio. The process of repurposing discarded pottery into new objects has driven Travaille's practice into a body of work that leaves behind ceramics (almost) entirely. While Travaille’s exhibition at Pond focuses on his recent comic-book collages, Travaille’s imagery of re-imagined Grecian vessels and floral arrangements point us towards meditations on joy, mortality, pop-culture, and the history of the ceramic object.

Chase Travaille (b. 1994, Arkansas) received his BFA in ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2015, he was a post-baccalaureate at the University of Arkansas in 2017, and he received his MFA from Alfred University in 2019. Through the Archie Bray Foundation, Travaille has been a recipient of the Windgate Fellowship, the Taunt Fellowship, and was a long-term resident of the Archie Bray Artist Residency in Helena, MT from 2019 to 2021. Travaille has exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at the Korean Society of Ceramic Arts in 2020, Miami University in 2021, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in 2022, and a solo exhibition at Hendrix College in 2023. Travaille’s solo exhibition, Exquisite Corpse, at LaiSun Keane Gallery in Boston, MA was included in Artsy’s list of top 5 small-gallery exhibitions to see in January of 2024. Chase Travaille lives and works in Little Rock, AR where he teaches at the University of Arkansas.

Join us Friday night, December 13th, from 5:30 - 8:00 PM to celebrate Chase Travaille’s solo exhibition. Libations are provided by Fossil Cove Brewing Co. of Fayetteville, AR. Thank you!
